3 inch scale Burrell traction engine - stock code 4243

A 3 inch scale Burrell to the Plastow design, completed in March 2010 and test run only.

Professionally-built, CE-marked silver-soldered copper boiler, working pressure 100psi, feed by mechanical pump and injector. Cast iron cylinder with slide valve actuated by Stephenson's gear with pole reverser on footplate. Mechanical lubricator.

Much of the work on this engine is well done, however there are a variety of "new engine bugs" which need attention - the builder was an experienced machinist, althoughinexperienced with steam engines. The engine needs:

  • A non-return valve fitting in the mechanical lubricator line

  • Plug at bottom of boiler replacing with a commercial blow-down valve

  • Injector replumbing to mount horizontally - it currently has a horizontal injector mounted on its end, which simply doesn't work. An alternative would be to fit a vertical injector

  • New bush for the little end

  • Check and set timing of forward valve eccentric

The engine is well-finished and nicely painted, it was in steam last week and driven round the yard.
