3 1/2 inch narrow gauge "Conway" 0-4-0ST - stock code 8945

A 3 1/2 inch gauge "Conway", Martin Evans freelance take on a typical narrow gauge engine, with a large helping of Hunslet in the overall design.

The engine has come to us along with a small collection of engines - in truly horrible condition, it's allegedly pulled four adults (although not, we suspect, in recent times...).

On the positive side:

  • boiler was dry at twice working pressure on hydraulic test, with no sign of leaks or distortion
  • it has a duplex feed pump mounted on the smokebox
On the less positive side:

  • it's horrendously grubby, with underlying rust to the running boards
  • paintwork is dreadful (unless you're looking for authentic 1960s North Wales quarry condition)
  • the wheels don't go round.
An engine in need of complete restoration, however not a complete lost cause - it needs time in the workshop rather than money spent on it.

We've had many of these in over the years, there are some pictures in the archive of one we sold last year to give you an idea of what a nicely turned-out, well-sorted "Conway" looks like.
