3 1/2 inch "Lickham Hall" - stock code 1834

In 1955 "Model Engineer" comissioned LBSC to design an "updated" Great Western Hall 4-6-0. He took on the design rather half-heartedly, naming it "Ivy Hall" - none are known to have been built. At the same time, in typical LBSC style, he designed a "real" Hall which he offered to A.J.Reeves of Birmingham, who stocked drawings and castings. Many of these "Lickham Hall"s were built but the episode was another nail in the coffin of LBSC's relationship with "Model Engineer" and led, in part, to his resignation shortly after.

This model is complete, although never run. It has sat displayed on a shelf for many years and is a little stiff from dryness in the motion. However, it turns over OK, no tight spots in the works and the reverser works from full forward to full reverse. It appears that, with a good oil-up it would run on air. A crosshead pump is fitted and mechanical lubricator behind the front buffer beam.

The coal-fired boiler is plumbed up although the regulator flange has not been bolted to the backhead. Construction is in copper with some braze and some silver solder. Superheaters are fitted. The boiler is not particularly tidily made and will probably require some attention.
