3 1/2 inch gauge Virginia - stock code 1929

1/2 inch gauge 4-4-0 to LBSC's "Virginia" design for an early type American locomotive.

Silver-soldered copper boiler with superheater, fed by axle pump and injector with auxiliary hand pump in tender. Slide valve cylinders with Walschaerts valve gear, pole reverser in cab. Usual cab fitting of blower valve, injector steam valve, pressure gauge, water gauge with blowdown and whistle. Axle pump bypass valve on footplate, injector water feed valve on tender.

This is an older model which has been used regularly until last year. We have hydraulic tested the boiler at 120 psi for 80 psi working pressure. It goes very well, although like most 4-4-0s quite light on its feet requiring a careful touch on the regulator when getting under way. The boiler certainly makes steam in the LBSC-approved manner and blows off almost continously on our test track here.

The engine requires minor tidying up - the cab is loose and needs four screws to secure it to the footplate, the injector is trying but needs a decent clean. It is otherwise in good running order and we will warranty it for 90 days as with stock on the "Locomotives" page.

Complete with fitted carrying crates for locomotive and tender, flue brush, pricker and electric steam-raising blower.

(If you fancy a Stephenson's valve gear version of the same, we found one in the shed when getting things out for the steam-up recently).
