3 1/2 inch gauge part-built Schools - stock code 2524

3 1/2 inch gauge Southern Schools 4-4-0, built I believe using Clarkson castings - a proper three cylinder job.

Work to date comprises rolling chassis which pushes along freely and smoothly, outside piston valve cylinders machined and erected, inside cylinder machined. The crank axle looks well done, the eccentric sheaves are fitted. There is a box of castings which looks to include most parts to complete. There is a pretty scary looking old nutted and calked boiler which, the previous owner assured me, has had a recent successful hydraulic test, complete with superheater, ashpan and grate (which has a broken bar).

There are also a set of tender frames erected, along with castings for horns, axleboxes and dummy springs.

I sold a really super-duper part-built Chamber's boilered Clarkson Schools a couple of years ago - it's in the archive, stock code 1699 if you want to see a rather more advanced version. It ran beautifully on air and was yet another of those projects I very nearly kept (it's also the only engine I ever delivered in the Caterham, although it was a squeeze).
