3 1/2 inch gauge Mona - stock code 2229

A venerable example of LBSC's "Mona", his popular design for an inside cylinder 0-6-2 tank engine.

Copper boiler with superheater, fed by axle pump with auxiliary hand pump in side tank. Mechanical lubricator behind front buffer beam.

The engine runs well on air and is in quite reasonable condition. It was hydraulic tested and a Southern Federation certificate issued some time ago, since when it hasn't been steamed. However, the bottom gauge fitting has been sealed up with some Araldite-like substance, possibly because the bush has been stripped - it needs pulling apart and sorting out properly before putting a new boiler test on it.

Mona is a good entry into club running, rather easier to drive than the average 3 1/2 inch gauge tank engine with the large boiler and firebox covering a multitude of firing deficiencies!
