3 1/2 inch gauge LNER B1 "Springbok" - stock code 7197

When this one arrived recently I couldn't recall having had a B1 to the Clarkson design in 3 1/2 inch gauge before - lots of 5 inch gauge ones and the occasional 7 1/4 "Mayflower", but checking back through the archive I discovered one other, an engine we sold back in 2010.

This engine was last used four years ago, it's come from a small collection, along with the "Tich" and "Iris" currently in stock. Fairly grubby and with faded paint, it's a well made engine underneath, fit and finish of the motionwork and valve gear is good, it turns over very smoothly.

Silver soldered copper boiler, 80psi working pressure, twin spring-type safety valves, feed by axle pump with auxiliary hand pump in the tender. Gunmetal cylinders with slide valves actuated by Walschaert's gear, screw reverser in the cab.

Of good proportions and nicely detailed with dummy Wakefield lubricators on the running boards and washout plugs on the boiler cladding.
