A 3 1/2 inch gauge Great Western "King", recently painted but of venerable age beneath.

Silver soldered copper boiler with four element flue tube superheater, working pressure 80psi with feed by twin axle pumps and hand pump in the tender. Gunmetal cylinders with slide valves, inside valves actuated by Walschaert's gear with screw reverser in the cab, derived motion to outside valves via rocker shafts. Mechanical lubricator between the frames.

We've had it running on air in the workshop - whilst it is listed here under "Locomotives" it would require some work to put back into steamable condition (and, unsure of what exactly it's been painted with, we've no certain knowledge of what it would look like after it had been steamed).

A handsome looking thing, it's stood outside in the sunshine all morning, admired by all visitors (even Mrs P, such is the power of a fresh coat of paint).
