3 1/2 inch gauge Alco "Mountaineer" chassis with cylinders - stock code 8329

A part-built chassis for an Alco 2-6-2T to Don Young's "Mountaineer" design, drawn up during his visits to the Ffestiniog Railway in the early 1970s.

Work thus far is to a good standard, the chassis is complete with wheels and coupling rods, gunmetal cylinders and valve chests.

From here the chassis could be got up to air-running with little further expenditure other than time in the workshop.

As always with narrow gauge models, the design produces a large engine for the gauge.

If you need inspiration to get out into the workshop, there are pictures of several in the archive, including a good one we sold back in 2013.

The build was serialised in "Model Engineer" magazine starting in 1973, drawings and castings are still available from Reeves.
