3 1/2 inch gauge "Hielan Lassie" - stock code 9538

A 3 1/2 inch gauge LNER Pacific to LBSC's popular "Hielan Lassie" design, it appears to have been test steamed - possibly only once given the condition of firebox and smokebox.

The engine rolls along freely, machining of motionwork and valve gear not bad, paintwork and lining good. It appears to have been test steamed in the past, but there is little sign of serious running - the chassis is exceptionally clean underneath.

There are a variety of jobs to do, including:

  • Fit injector (steam valve and clack valve already fitted)
  • Fit axle pump pipework
  • Fit hand pump in tender if required
  • Bolt cab to chassis
  • Drill front buffer beam for buffer bolts (buffers currently only loosely fitted)
  • Fit blower pipework

A leak from in front of the dome prevented any meaningful test of the silver soldered copper boiler - we suspect it's the regulator mounting bolts, but the boiler will need to be lifted and cladding removed to seal.
