2 inch scale Pride of Penrhyn - stock code 4262

I've sold this a couple of times now, last in August 2010, it's just come back in exchange for a 3 inch scale Atkinson steam wagon. It was in steam for the boiler inspector last week, I took the opportunity to have a drive around the yard - still the best one I've driven, it goes exceptionally well, quiet, smooth and with tons of "get up and go". If only the builder could offer the same tuning service for fifty year old engineers...

Arguably the most famous PoP of them all, an engine I bought from its builder back in 2006, a professional engineer (not to mention dedicated website author) who basically ironed out every problem in the ModelWorks design, writing it up at length as she did so – the website has long gone, her account of a subsequent kit-Burrell build remains available as a book from our estimable friends at MJ Engineering.

By a large margin the best-running PoP I’ve had in, this engine goes well, maintains steam and water easily and generally has few remaining characteristics of a kit-built engine. Sam had it in steam on Wednesday and happily ploughed up and down the estate roads with it all afternoon.

Silver soldered copper boiler, 90 psi working pressure, feed by injector and mechanical pump with an auxiliary hand pump. Cast iron cylinders with slide valves actuated by Stephenson’s gear, pole reverser. Mechanical lubricator.

The engine comes complete with original assembly instructions (along with the builder's comprehensive notes detailing modifications made), footrests and a passenger trolley with electric pump for filling the wagons tanks "on the move". There is a spare cut down “racing” cab which the builder favoured for running – it gives good access to the controls.
