2 1/2 inch gauge S15 4-6-0 - stock code 3568

A coal-fired 2 1/2 inch gauge Southern S15, originally designed for the LSWR by Urie, later modified by Maunsell who built more for the Southern Railway.

Silver soldered copper boiler, working pressure 75psi, feed by axle pump with auxiliary hand pump in tender. Two cylinders with slide valves actuated by Walschaert's valve gear, pole reverser in cab - the cab roof is removeable which makes driving somewhat easier.

Once you get your mind around the miniature world of firing in this diminutive size, it goes very well - the engine runs particularly quietly (there's a clip of it here). I think the livery is particularly handsome (but then you'd expect me to say that - those who have visited our house will know that the outside woodwork is all in Maunsell green - we gave the decorator a 7 1/4 inch gauge SR wheel and he had the local paint shop mix up gloss to match).

Complete with a nicely made storage crate.
