Maxwell Hemmens traction engine - stock code 3814

Bought new in 1983 direct from Maxwell Hemmens as a factory-built engine, this engine has been displayed on a bookcase for the last 26 years, never run. It is in as-new condition, the paintwork is as delivered.

Coal-fired silver-soldered copper boiler, 50 psi working pressure. Feed by mechanical pump with bypass. Gunmetal cylinder with slide valve actuated by Stephenson's gear with pole reverser on footplate. Mechanical lubricator, steam blower mounted on cylinder block.

There is a winch fitted behind the nearside rear wheel, fairleads mounted on the tender.

Maxwell Hemmens models enjoyed a reputation for high quality engineering, the company built a range of boat, stationary and traction engines.
