Chime whistle - stock code 2996

Built as one of a pair for the 15 inch gauge Bure Valley Railway in Norfolk, this one spent its working life on one of their huge narrow gauge ZB 2-6-2s. It was built as a replica of the whistles fitted to the LNER A4s, themselves copied from Crosby originals and manufactured in Doncaster Works (which caused a frisson of excitement with Crosby's patent lawyers at the time).

Beautifully made, it takes a super polish with not a huge amount of effort. It carries some minor dings acquired during its time on the locomotive but overall the condition is excellent.

I don't have a fitting big enough to blow this one on the workshop compressor, however those nice people at Crosby have recorded one of their 4 inch whistles and put a clip on their website, you can hear it here.
