5 inch gauge Simplex - stock code 2723

A well-made example of Martin Evan's popular and powerful "Simplex" design for a freelance 0-6-0 contractors-type tank engine.

Silver-soldered copper boiler with superheaters, working pressure 100psi, feed by injector and axle pump with auxiliary hand pump in the right hand side tank. The builder has made a screw-in handle for the hand pump, which is a good idea and makes for very positive engagement with the drive pin. Gunmetal cylinders with slide valve actuated by Walschaert's valve gear, pole reverser in cab. Mechanical lubricator below smokebox.

The engine has just had a new boiler certificate and goes well. It needs minor work including attention to a leaky regulator and replacement of a drain cock - these are jobs that could be done between outings - but is in otherwise good order throughout.
