A variant of LBSC's "Speedy" design with Baker valve gear - a setup the master was particularly fond of, though possibly less familiar to Hawksworth.
Underneath the horrible paint is a robustly made engine with sound boiler. It steams well and runs ok, definitely an "improver" that could be worked on even as it was used at weekends, to make a decent example of this popular, powerful design.
Cosmetically, the engine could in truth be improved tenfold with a pint of Nitromors and a half pint of paint. At a pinch you could get away with just the Nitromors.
