A bit like waiting for a bus and then two come along at once, this is the second kit-built Burrell we've had in as many months.
Welded steel boiler by Cope Engineering, expanded copper tubes, 120psi working pressure. Feed by mechanical pump and injector, twin Ramsbottom type safety valves. Cast iron cylinder with slide valve actuated by Stephenson's gear. Mechanical lubricator and Pickering type governor mounted on the block. Two speed, three shaft transmission with differential, winch behind nearside rear wheel with fairleads mounted on tender. Road wheels have rubber tyres fitted.
Other than a leaky regulator which seems endemic in traction engines of this size - we fit a plate into the regulator chest and lap the valve to it, which cures the leak, gives a nice action and makes future maintenance much easier - the engine performed faultlessly on test.
