The rather rare 3 1/2 inch gauge version of the popular "Sweet Pea" design, "Sweet Violet" brings the same design advantages to the smaller gauge, giving a larger, easier to drive alternative to the standard beginner's "Tich", "Juliet" or "Rob Roy".
Underneath the slightly battered charm there is a decently-made and well-sorted engine here which has a good boiler and runs nicely. The size is a welcome change from hefting five inch gauge tank engines about, whilst remaining big enough to get at the controls easily.
Silver soldered marine-type boiler, 80psi working pressure, twin safety valves. Cast iron cylinders with slide valves actuated by Hackworth gear, pole reverser in cab. Mechanical lubricator.
