We have comprehensive workshop facilities on the premises for the manufacture of all types and sizes of steam engine and their component parts. Most work is done in-house, with some specialist jobs put out to a small number of trusted suppliers.
Colchester Triumph 2000 18 x 50 centre lathe with high speed threading capability - used mainly for the bigger stuff, up to 12" scale on occasions!
Colchester Chipmaster 5 x 20 toolroom lathe - ideal for smaller bits and with a very handy turn of spindle speed - 350 to 3000 rpm at the turn of the wheel (on a good day!) with a very comprehensive screwcutting gearbox.
Bridgeport EZ-Trak CNC mill - this is the CNC version of the classic Bridgeport 48 x 9 turret mill. We bought it new four years ago and it's rarely been out of work since. Fast to program, it's ideal for the economic production of complicated one-offs.
Thermal Dynamics plasma cutter, cuts to 15mm steel but particularly useful (and very fast) on plate up to 6mm
Eland 300 amp MIG welder
BOC Oxy-acetylene welding/brazing equipment
Bead/grit blasting cabinet, used mainly for paint preparation.
In addition to our in-house facilities, we have good contacts for laser-cutting, pattern-making/casting and high quality CNC sheet metal work.
To complement the workshop, we have a high degree of CAD expertise - AutoCAD is the main tool in use for our industrial design business and we can produce or modify CAD files for all types of application.
