| Vauxhall Movano van |
This is the Station Road Steam van - should say the old van, replaced earlier this year by a new long wheelbase Transit 350 which gives us an extra half a ton of payload and a couple of feet extra in the back.
It's a Vauxhall Movano, we bought it from one of our customers some years ago who used it transport his 4 inch Foster about in (bought the Foster too, come to think of it). It's equipped with a serious sized electric winch which will load anything which that fits in the back - we've moved Tinkerbells, 4 inch road locomotives, milling machines, Colchester lathes... About the only thing that won't go in is a 4 1/2 inch scale Foden wagon (too long).
Overall it's in good nick, nothing like an ex-builder's van of similar vintage. Only fly in the ointment on the bodywork are the rear doors - driving in to the Alexandra Palace Show on the first morning in January, some young lady on the North Circular pre-occupied with her mobile phone ran into the back of the van, denting both doors. We straightened them out sufficiently to open, close and lock and it can be used as is, if you're really picky a pair of secondhand doors from eBay at about £150 would seem to be a good idea. Most of the pictures show the doors in their previously pristine condition, the last one shows them re-modelled.
It goes well, has got 12 months MOT, new rear brake discs fitted last week, there's a decent alarm fitted with remote locking and it can turn on a sixpence (which is more than you can say for a long wheelbase Transit). It's front wheel drive, which makes the loading height low, ideal for loading traction engines, back is ply-lined. It's got a wireless which receives the Archers very clearly, it can probably get other stations as well - there's a CD player as well. Oh yes, and there's a tow bar. Engine is a turbo diesel.
Bad bits - there's a hole in the driver's seat, the driver's door handle is loose.
