Next year's competition will be held 20/21st June 2009 at Goring, Sussex by kind invitation of Worthing Society of Model Engineers

LittleLEC is the Small Locomotive Efficiency Competition - held for the first time in 2008 and hosted by the Guildford Club at their Stoke Park track. Based on the well-established IMLEC and SEQLEC format, the little engines competition is open to any coal-fired locomotive weighing up to 50 pounds.

Organized in 2008 by a group of enthusiastic members in the Guildford Club, I put up the "Small Locomotive Challenge Trophy" to support the event, with other prizes kindly donated by members of the trade. Following this year's event, Station Road Steam has agreed to become the organizing body (which is a posh way of saying that Mrs P will probably end up doing all the paperwork), handling organization of future events and processing entries for the competition.

Competition Guidelines

The competition was held for the first time in July 2008, using a set of guidelines drawn up for the event. As with all competitions of this type, the rules are bound to change and evolve. Having fun and a good day out are considered fairly high on the list of desirable objectives for the competition, younger drivers in particular are both welcome and encouraged.

Suggestions for changes to the regulations for future events as well as feedback from past events is welcomed. We are keen to encourage a large and diverse entry, to which end engines may be of any gauge for which the hosting club is equipped - this will generally be 3 1/2 and 5 inch gauge, although it is hoped that 2 1/2 inch gauge may be seen when a suitable track is available.
